Wood-Fired Hot Tub
How to use the wood-fired hot tub at The Fernweh House — seasonal availability and operation guide.

Watch →
The wood-fired hot tub is one of those experiences that stays with you. Set under open sky beside the river, it takes a bit of patience to heat — and every minute of the wait is worth it.
NoteSeasonal availability: Mid-April through Early November. The hot tub is not available during winter months.
Step 1 — Fill the Tub
- —Close the drain valve (toggle perpendicular to the pipe)
- —Turn the left valve by the hillside to fill from the bottom
- —Fill to 6–8 inches from the top — takes approximately 40 minutes
- —Do not start the fire until the tub is full — the firebox can be damaged if heated dry
Step 2 — Start the Fire
- —Remove the stove lid
- —Layer paper/fire starter, then kindling, then medium logs
- —Light the tinder and let the kindling catch before adding larger logs
Step 3 — Heat the Water
- —Partially replace the stove lid with a gap for airflow
- —Keep a small, steady flame — no need to roar it
- —Stir the water often with the paddle for even heating
- —Water reaches 95–105°F in 90–120 minutes
- —Stop adding wood when the water reaches around 90°F — it will continue rising to ~104°F
- —The black thermal cover speeds up heating — keep it clear of the firebox
Step 4 — Soak
- —Stir occasionally to keep the water heating evenly
- —No bubbles, oils, soaps, or bath products — these damage the wood
- —Lights are controlled by the switch near the steps to the river
Step 5 — After Your Soak
- —Let the fire burn out completely — do not extinguish
- —Do not drain the tub — our cleaning team will handle this
- —Place the cover back on the tub
- —Water can be reused for up to 5 days
NoteThe right-side valve connects to a garden hose for rinsing the tub before filling and after draining.
